King Arthur Flour: What You Need To Know

During our luncheon at King Arthur, we learned a lot about the company, and I'm excited to let you in on all that I learned.

The King Arthur Flour company is the oldest flour company in America! It was started in Boston in 1790 under a different name. Eventually the owner saw a production of King Arthur and decided to rename the company the King Arthur Flour Company because it embodies the same qualities as King Arthur: integrity and purity.

What makes the company so special? It's 100% employee owned and is therefore 100% committed to quality. It was obvious even during the short time we spent there that King Arthur employees love what they do and really stand behind the company.

King Arthur cares about the environment and the community. This is evident in volunteer programs, funding for non-profits, educational programs, and environmental commitments and awareness.

One of the coolest things that I discovered that they do is the Life Skills Bread Baking Program. King Arthur pairs up with schools and teaches students in grades 4 through 7 how to bake bread. The hope is that those students will then go home, taking their new skills and ingredients provided by King Arthur, and bake two loaves of bread -- one to share with their families and one they bring back to school. The school then collects all of the loaves brought in by the students and donates them. I think it's a great way to teach kids how to give back, and I also think it encourages some family time at home too.

King Arthur is looking for schools throughout the country to work with (even in Hawaii), so if you're a teacher or administrator and are interested in the program, please contact King Arthur to get the ball rolling in your school!

What's so special about the flour? Consistency. Any bag of King Arthur Flour you buy is going to work exactly like the last bag of King Arthur Flour you bought. You'll get the same results every time because King Arthur adheres to the strictest quality standards in the industry.

What can King Arthur do for you? Help you with all your baking needs! King Arthur boasts a team of baking experts who are at the ready to answer any of your baking questions. There are a number of different ways for you to connect with King Arthur including the Baking Hotline and the Baking Banter blog.

A new community called the Baking Circle allows bakers to connect with each other and the experts at King Arthur. I encourage you to check it out and sign up!

On Thursday I'll get into the classes we took!
