Farmers' Market Finds Weekly Roundup, July 17

White currants

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I'm in Freeport for the day, so no farmers' market finds from me this morning. But I did get a lot of great submissions that I'm very excited for you to check out.

I think it will be fun sharing what you guys find at the farmers' market or in your gardens or CSA deliveries each week and what you make too.

Olga (Mango & Tomato) was on vacation in Nashville and wrote a great post about her trip to the farmers' market there: Nashville: Farmers Market.

Joan (Grandma's Recipe Box) shared pictures of her niece's garden in Sacramento, where she's been finding abundant produce.

Just look at this haul: tomatoes, zucchini, spaghetti squash, cucumbers, carrots, green onions, and peaches!

Make sure to check out the beautiful pasta she made with those tomatoes and zucchini.

Christine (Fresh Local and Best) took some gorgeous photos at the San Francisco Ferry Building Farmers' Market. She's also an incredible writer. Be sure to head over to her blog to see what she found. I was instantly intrigued by the heirloom tomatoes.

Michelle (Fun and Fearless in Beantown) got creative with her beet greens. If you love hummus, you'll want to try her recipe! She also roasted up baby carrots and made a red currant wine sauce to have with pork cutlets for a recent dinner. I was actually eyeing red currants at the market today.

Featured Chef: Josh Lewin

Josh was until recently the Chef at Robyn's Grill in Roslindale and worked closely with the farmers' market organizers to bring a market-fresh menu and special events to Roslindale Village. He's now moving on as the sous chef at Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro on Charles St. in Boston to work even more extensively with locally sourced fresh food products. Josh also keeps a blog (Mange-moi) where he discusses cooking and issues in the food world and is a featured blogger for the Boston Local Food Festival taking place this October.

Josh loves heading to the farmers' market in Roslindale on Saturday mornings to pick up produce for the restaurant. His recent menu included: cucumber gazpacho, heirloom lettuce salads, grilled corn with fresh cheese and butter, and fish sandwiches -- made with fennel, watercress salad (cress, shallots, fennel, lemon), bell peppers (roasted), and award-winning tomatoes, not to mention fish from the Roslindale Fish Market.

I sure can't wait until Josh comes over to Beacon Hill Bistro. I'm looking forward to some fresh, local meals there!

If you'd like to be included in the weekly roundup, just email me links and/or pictures of your farmers' market finds or recipes.
