Scenes From Mother's Day In March

On Saturday night, we went to Mother's Day in March, a pop-up restaurant/event at the Boston Center for Adult Education. All proceeds from the pop-up went toward helping local chef Will Gilson's mother rebuild her greenhouses, which were destroyed by this winter's heavy snows. Here are some pictures from the event.

The menu
FYI - I'd be more than happy to edit menus for future events.
Unfortunately, these were rife with misspelled names and restaurant names,
but at least we knew what we were eating!

Grilled escarole salad with anchovy vin - Colin Lynch, Menton

Mac goulash - Matt Jennings, Farmstead and La Laiterie
Definitely my second favorite dish of the night!

Our friend Bill chatting with Jodie Gilson, Will's mother

Chef Will Gilson, thanking everyone for coming

Beef stroganoff with egg noodles - Jay Silva, Bambara
My favorite dish of the evening

Barbecue chicken legs with cucumber and Kent's vinaigrette - Jamie Bissonnette, Toro/Coppa
The chicken legs were Jeff's favorite dish, and I loved the cukes.
(Jamie was just voted Food & Wine's Best New Chef!)

Brussels sprouts with bacon - Dante de Magistris, Dante/Il Casale

"What I wish my mom made as a kid" Porchetta - Louis DiBiccari, Sel de la Terre

Sticky bun bread pudding - Joanne Chang, Flour Bakery + Cafe/Myers + Chang

Look at all the bloggers who were there!
Me, Elizabeth, Justin, Bianca, Jacki, Dan, Meesh

The space at the BCAE was really interesting for holding a pop-up. There were a bunch of long tables set up in different rooms, and food was served family style. The lights were much brighter than typical restaurant lighting, which made for great pictures, but gave the atmosphere less of a formal restaurant feel.

I was most impressed with the lineup of chefs who came together and donated their time and so much more to help a fellow chef whose mother was in need. I'm really glad we bought tickets to support this cause and that we got to enjoy some delicious food and great company.

This looks like a fantastic event! I thought this was next weekend for some reason so I didn't buy tickets!

2 days later I am still drooling over those brussels sprouts. So good seeing you!! Also, our arrangement in that photo is hilarious. I really thought we'd formed a neat row but apparently not :P

SO glad that this was such a great success! It is terrible what happened to their greenhouses/livelihood and incredible how this city can come together to help support. Great recap of the evening!

I lovveeeeeee that picture of us all! Way better than something more stuffy and posed. Also, I only look a little sketchy compared to my usual "very sketchy" photo look.

I had a great night at this event, even if certain things werent quite up to my high expectations. It was still a great time.
